Wolverhampton Canoe Club was started in 1956 at Autherley Junction in the stables beside the canal. After a devastating fire in 1981, the club moved to it's current location off Oxley Moor Road, where we have direct access on the Staffordshire and Worceter canal.
The Clubhouse has private parking, boat storage, changing room facilities with showers, as well as large room for training or "get togethers".The club is open four sessions a week and welcomes all paddlers, from complete beginners to seasoned campainers. We are mainly orientated towards marathon racing and a number of members compete in regional races on both canals and rivers. We hold our own annual race between Ironbridge and Bridgenorth on the river Severn. There is however no expetation to compete and a number of members are social paddlers only.
The Club has a number of boats for all members and guests, from general purpose beginner kayaks, racing boats to slalom boats and open canoes. We also provide paddles, buoyancy aids etc... all you need is suitable clothing and a change of clothes just in case.
We are open throughout the year with some members paddling through the cold winter months, some have been known to break the ice, others make use of the indoor paddling machines and training equipment. We are family orientated club and welcome all ages and abilities. We try to arrange a number of social events throughout the year, so it's not just about paddling.
